THE CORPORATION

The Corporation is a non-profit organization that was created in 2001.  It is composed of community members, municipal officials and representatives of various organizations such as Prescott-Russell Tourism, Ontario Agricultural Federation, Eastern Ontario Snowmobile Club. 

Its mission is as follows:

Develop, operate, and enhance the Prescott and Russell Recreation Trail and any other pedestrian or bicycle network under the responsibility of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.

  • Manage these infrastructures and facilities for the collective well-being of the population of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell and as a tool for tourism and economic development in the region.

  • Educate people and visitors about the cultural, agricultural and natural heritage of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.

  • Organizing or hosting activities that promote walking and cycling, and a healthy and active lifestyle in general.

Members meet on the 4th Thursday of each month, except in July, August and December.

Voyageur Cycling Route is Ontario’s next major cycling tourism experience spanning over 630-km from Sudbury to the National Capital Region.

OBB

In 2016, the Prescott and Russell region registered to the Ontario By Bike (OBB) program.  This program offers regional companies and organizations the opportunity to register and certify themselves as OBB.  By registering for free with the OBB program, businesses are promoted at the provincial level.

BFC

The Bike Friendly Program was launched by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition in Canada. 

 

Bike Friendly Community (BFC) is aimed mainly at municipalities that wish to be recognized as a "Bike Friendly Community".  The Program provides incentives, practical assistance and recognition to communities that actively support cycling.

 

Can-Bike

Cycling Canada’s CAN-BIKE program offers a series of progression courses taught on all aspects of cycling, to ride safely, effectively, and enjoyably on the road.

 

In 2018, thanks to a grant from the Ontario Francophone Support Program (PAFO), the Prescott and Russell Recreational Resort Corporation implements the Can-Bike program in the region.

 

Local schools, daycares, day camps and adults have benefited from this training. 

 

Over 400 people have enjoyed learning through the Can-Bike program. 

 

Two of our residents are now certified as Can-Bike instructors, ensuring the continuity of Can-Bike training in our region.
